AIM (Academically Interested Minds) is a five-week residential pre-college summer program which began in 1984 and has continued to thrive over the years. The program is designed to augment Kettering University's efforts to reach a greater number of multicultural students who have a strong interest in the areas of engineering, math, science and business. There is no cost to the student.
The AIM program gives multicultural students a real college life experience by preparing them to make a successful transition from high school to college. Students from across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean attend freshman level courses Monday through Thursday in calculus, chemistry, chemistry lab, computer programming, computer lab, economics, physics, physics lab and business management. Classes are taught by Kettering University faculty who assign homework and give quizzes and exams. On Fridays, company tours are scheduled and students are able to speak with professional engineers and managers. During the evenings and on weekends, chaperoned activities take place i.e. bowling, skating, movies and a trip to Cedar Point. Students also have access to Kettering's library, computer center and the recreational center. A banquet is held at the end of the program and scholarships are awarded to the students who rank in the top 15 of the AIM program. The 2013 session dates are July 5-August 2, 2013.
