Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Welcome. Dr. James Zhang, Kettering's Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs is the ranking academic officer and is responsible for all aspects of the academic mission and student life.  Kettering has an exceptional, nationally recognized model for cooperative education. Its academic programs are nationally ranked, and it is known for its academic excellence. The University, its students, and its graduates have made significant contributions to the economic and social well being of the region, state, and nation and have truly impacted communities across the world.

Kettering University offers an exceptional learning environment for students seeking careers in engineering, science, mathematics, and business by the blending classroom education with out-of-class experiences such as undergraduate research and cooperative education. Our academic programs are lab intensive and our classes are small. We are committed to a comprehensive learning experience that integrates theory and practice, teamwork and self-reliance, and creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Regardless of the program of study, we consciously incorporate the liberal arts into the curriculum to ensure a breadth of perspective.

Kettering University is truly a remarkable learning community. Faculty, staff and administrators are kind, caring, dedicated, and passionate about academic excellence and student achievement. We are absolutely committed to student success. We recognize that for students to become the leaders of tomorrow we must develop their skills in leadership, communication, service, and citizenship. To this end, we provide enriching and meaningful learning opportunities in all aspects of student life both in the classroom and through an exceptional array of extra-curricular activities, including student government, student clubs, service organizations, Greek life, and intramural sports.

Kettering recognizes that knowledge is expanding exponentially. As educators our challenge is no longer simply to provide graduates with knowledge in a chosen discipline but rather to provide them with the learning skills that will support their life-long growth in a rapidly changing world and to facilitate their success in pursuing careers and life goals. We strive to provide an academic experience that is empowering and transformational, characterized by the type and quality of encounters we facilitate for our students.

In short, we at Kettering University work tirelessly to maximize each student’s potential for success and in the process prepare our students for a life of learning, leadership, and engagement.
