The SAE Digital Library provides comprehensive coverage of all SAE technical publications, including technical papers published since 1906, plus current and cancelled SAE standards, books, and proceedings, magazine articles, specifications, and research reports. On and off-campus users are advised to begin their search at the SAE Digital Library.
For technical papers from 1965-1997, use the tech paper number to locate the document within the library filing cabinets or microfiche drawers. Remember that the technical papers from 1998-current are full text in the SAE Digital Library. If you need assistance, please ask us.
For standards, use the standard number to locate the document from the CD-ROM 2008 SAE Handbook available only in the Library.
The SAE CD-ROM interface (which one might only want to use if the Digital Library is unavailable) also indexes technical papers from 1994-2006, although only the papers for 2003-2006 can be viewed in full text. Using the Search tab in the uppermost menu bar and searching by field is recommended. The Help tab in this menu bar has detailed information for navigating the database. Use the tabs at the bottom to change from one view option to another.
Off-campus users in need papers or standards are asked to call the Reference Desk at (810) 762-9598 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
On-campus users are asked to visit the library to obtain standards or technical papers from 1965-2002.
