Advising and Success Coaching
Advising is a collaborative teaching and learning process that by intention and design facilitates students’ understanding of the meaning and purpose of higher education and fosters their intellectual, personal, and professional development.
Advisors provide students with a number of services:
Academic advising for ME and Undecided Students
- Provides students with tools and guidance to be successful in all stages of their academic careers.
- Aligns co-op and experiential learning with educational/career goals.
- Helps students develop strong connections within the Kettering community.
- Facilitates successful transition into professional life.
Success coaching (for all students)
Advisors coach students in time management techniques, study strategies, note-taking, test preparation, test-taking, and other skills to help them become more effective students.
Probationary advising (for students on probation)
Probationary advising is assistance that combines academic advising with success coaching. For information on academic probation, please see the page on “Academic Standing.”
Advisors can work with students to help them clarify which career path they would like to pursue, where they see themselves in the future, and what steps they need to take to get there. Students who are undecided about their major or who are considering changing a major are welcome to take an interest inventory that can help them understand themselves better and make clearer educational choices.
