Dr. Mohamed El-Sayed is one of only 19 engineers and scientists named an SAE Fellow in 2012.
Dr. K. Joel Berry was named an American Society of Mechanical Engineering Fellow in 2012. Only the top 3 percent among 100,000 ME faculty are selected as Fellows nationwide.
Dr. Paul Zang, professor of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the prestigious SAE International Forest R. McFarland Award in 2011.
Dr. Brian McCartin won the 2010 Chauvenet Prize for Mathematical Expository Writing, given by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
Dr. David Marshall was awarded a Humboldt Fellowship in 2010.

Labs:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department's Advanced Power Electronics Lab is devoted solely to power electronics work and is a new showcase of the research capability the university offers to the corporate world.
The new 3,200-square-foot Chemical Engineering facilities feature a state-of-the-art lab, a classroom and design center, a department studio and five faculty offices.
The Vehicle Durability and Integration Lab, commonly referred to as the “Shaker Lab,” tests vehicles and components by shaking them.
Kettering undergraduate students have access to research labs and equipment, accessible only to graduate students in many other universities.

Chemistry students get hands on experience with a 400 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer.

EE students can design and test in the new Green Mobility Lab.

IE students explore and test in Applied Control Systems Design Lab, Human Factors Lab, and Work Design Lab.

Kettering is the home to one of the country’s few Crash Safety Centers that focuses on undergraduate research, instruction and learning.

IME is home to one of the best equipped undergraduate robotics laboratories in the country.

Kettering is the first university in the country to partner with Swedish Biogas International and the Swedish government to advance alternative energy through the conversion of human waste into usable methane gases.

Student projects (through both Undergraduate Thesis and Graduate programs) have provided millions of dollars in documented savings to companies through quality improvements, production efficiencies, safety enhancements, design innovations and cost avoidance in the design and manufacturing process.

Entrepreneurial students and members of the community have access to the economic redevelopment resources available through Kettering’s TechWorks, the Innovation Center at Kettering and the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center.

International co-op and study abroad opportunities expand a student’s preparation for the global marketplace. Kettering has agreements with six universities in Germany, one in Mexico and is expanding opportunities in China and other sites around the world.

Undergraduates have multiple ways to build a network with Kettering’s outstanding alumni population, who are some of the most successful business and manufacturing executives in the country. Student Alumni Council regularly hosts small and large group gatherings, providing career exploration and network-building sessions with alumni.

Kettering embraces the arts and literature, with the Kettering Choir, acting classes, Kettering Band, a literary magazine, a print and online newspaper, radio station, Global Issues Film Festival and an art gallery.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers (SHPE) are just three of dozens of student organizations that provide both professional and social outlets for students.
Desiree White, a Biochemistry graduate, is one of only 40 college students nationwide to receive a 2011 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship.
Winning papers on machining and machine tool topics earned three Kettering students two weeks in an advanced international engineering program at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy.

Students in Kettering Communication classes learn how to use writing to serve civic needs and solve practical problems at work, as well as writing for research and technical documents.

Kettering features many active-learning classes where students learn leadership and teamwork skills and professors guide more than lecture.

Students work with award-winning staff also. Dr. Charles Hanson, director of Kettering's Library, received the 2010 Michigan Library Association Award of Excellence, the highest recognition in Library Services in Michigan.
